This riddim had been getting relicked for years before it was officially named after Shabba’s 1989 hit “Peanie Peanie.” One of the earlier successes was Cocoa Tea’s 1987 song “Lonesome Side.” This is another example of a riddim that spans decades and surfaces again and again following trends from analogue to digital but always sure to ram the dancehall. Some of the biggest hits were Bounty’s 1995 “Cellular Phone” and Wayne Wonder’s “Sensi Ride”…takes you all around the world…

Vybz Kartel – Bad Reputation

General’s Ranking: starstarstarstar

2009

Vybz Kartel is probably the hardest working man in dancehall these days. He’s got videos dropping almost as fast as 45s and the quality of his tunes is undeniable.

File Riddim

General’s Ranking: starstarstar

Studio 53 – 2009

The Studio 53 crew hail from Trinidad and Tobago and they have several upcoming releases including the File Riddim. While it may not be big in the clubs, the production uses a mix of digital sounds as well as some earthy drums that make this a good riddim to drop in the boombox for the ride to work.

This movie should be in every reggae fans collection. This is a real yard flick. Be careful lending it out. It may be the last time you see it…
